Matariki 2022
For the first time ever, NZ is celebrating Matariki with a public holiday! Hikurangi is proud to host our very own 2022 Matariki Festival.
The day will start off with a wheels parade featuring classic cars and iconic vehicles from the Hikurangi district. The parade will start form Valley Road at 1pm and end at the Hikurangi rugby Grounds.
At 2pm an opening ceremony will be held on the stage located at the back of the Bowling Club (on the rugby grounds) and speeches and kapa haka performances will follow.
Once complete the will then be plenty of family entertainment to participate in. With field games like three legged races etc as well as a vertical bungee, flax weaving and poi making activities, there is plenty to see and do with your Whanau. Don't forget to browse the classic cars on site and to visit one of the many food/drink stalls attending.
Please bring along a cash donation to place in one of the circulating donation buckets where all funds raised goes to the Hikurangi Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Bring a picnic blanket and buy food on site for dinner. We will conclude the evening by a fireworks display upon dark.
We look forward to celebrating Matariki with you and hope you enjoy this fun filled event.
